Of all the trends we’ve spotted this season, our favorite would have to be fashion as activism. From the biggest stars to the world’s most prestigious designers, NYFW goers were using fashion to talk about the issues that are most important to them (sartorially speaking). Indonesian Muslim designer Anniesa Hasibuan made history in 2016 by showing her collection at NYFW collection with hijabs. For this years collection, she cast her show using all immigrants and second-generation children of immigrants, according to ELLE.

“Difference is not something to be afraid of—it’s something you should embrace,” the designer told told ELLE.com through a translator after her show. “We have this vision and mission of bringing peace, and fashion is one of the means we can use to spread these beautiful values to the world.”
